12. How the tools work, and what that means for you

Every tool on this site runs inside your browser. When you select a file, the browser hands the page read access to that file; the page decodes it, performs the requested operation using JavaScript or WebAssembly, and returns a result you download. No copy of the file is transmitted to us, and none is stored on our infrastructure.

Two consequences follow, and both are worth understanding before you rely on a tool for anything important. First, the work is done by your device, so speed and capacity depend on your own hardware, memory and browser. A very large file may be slow, or may exhaust the memory available to the tab. Second, because we never receive your file, we cannot recover it, re-run an operation for you, or investigate what went wrong with a specific document. Support is limited to the behaviour of the tool itself.

13. Your responsibility for your own data

You are solely responsible for keeping copies of anything you value. Before using any tool that transforms, compresses, converts or removes data, retain the original. Compression and format conversion are frequently one-directional: information discarded during the operation cannot be restored afterwards by us or by anyone else.

You are also responsible for ensuring you have the right to process the material you use these tools on. That includes copyright in images, audio and documents, confidentiality obligations owed to employers or clients, and any legal restrictions applicable to personal or regulated data in your jurisdiction.

14. Availability and changes to the tools

The site is provided on an as-available basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, and we may modify, suspend, rename or withdraw any tool at any time without notice. Browser capabilities also change: a tool that relies on a particular browser API may stop functioning if that API is altered or removed by a browser vendor, which is outside our control.

Where a tool depends on a browser feature that your browser does not implement, it may not work at all on that browser or platform. Nothing on this site should be treated as a guarantee of compatibility with any specific device, operating system or browser version.

15. Accuracy of calculators and converters

The calculators are provided for general information and illustration. They implement standard formulae and produce arithmetically correct results for the inputs given, but they cannot account for the specific terms of any contract, the rules applicable in your jurisdiction, changes in law or rates, rounding conventions used by a particular institution, or your individual circumstances.

In particular: financial calculators do not constitute financial, investment, tax or lending advice; health-related calculators do not constitute medical advice or diagnosis; and none of the outputs should be used as the sole basis for a decision with financial, legal or health consequences. Always verify figures with the relevant institution, and consult an appropriately qualified professional before acting.

16. Prohibited uses, stated plainly

You agree not to use this site to process material you have no right to process, to attempt to disrupt or overload the site, to probe or test its security, to scrape or republish its content at scale, to remove or obscure advertising, to reverse-engineer the site for the purpose of building a competing service, or to use it in any way that breaks the law where you are.

You also agree not to represent this site or its operators as having reviewed, endorsed or verified any output you produce with the tools, and not to present the tools as your own service to third parties.

17. Advertising

This site carries advertising, which is what keeps the tools available at no cost. Advertisements are supplied by third-party networks and their content is selected by those networks, not by us. We do not endorse advertised products or services and are not party to any transaction you enter into with an advertiser. If an advertisement appears to be misleading or inappropriate, we would be grateful if you told us through the contact page so it can be reported to the network.

18. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operators of this site against any claim, loss, liability or expense arising from your use of the site, from material you process using it, or from your breach of these terms.

19. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect and the unenforceable provision is to be applied to the maximum extent permissible. These terms, together with the privacy policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of this site, and supersede any prior understanding.

A failure to enforce any provision on a given occasion is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.

20. Feedback

If you send us suggestions, bug reports or ideas for improvement, we may use them to improve the site without obligation, attribution or compensation, unless we agree otherwise with you in writing. We appreciate the reports either way — most of the improvements to these tools have come from people who took the time to describe something that did not work.
